The different faces of love

A verse most commonly quoted, and that always comes to mind when talking about love, is 1 Corinthians 13:4-7,

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

Indeed, this is love. This is a taste of God's limitless love. This love beckons selflessness, and the acceptance of people for who they are, for who is better than anyone? We all have our faults our shortcomings.

But yet there is also a need to remember the aspect of love that corrects. Where because we love each other, we see the need to help a friend see the error of their ways. Galations 6:1 says,

"Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted."

This is a reflection of God's love for us, where although He loves us just the way we are, His love demands that we don't remain in our sin and through His grace that we be transformed to be more like Christ everyday.
